Up and Coming Reads | Down Station

Down Station by Simon Morden I was looking through some new releases for 2016 and came across this book, Down Station by Simon Morden .  It's published by Gollancz and the blurb looked interesting. In Down Station a small group of commuters  and tube workers witness a fiery apocalypse overtaking London. They make their escape through a service tunnel. Reaching a door they step through...and find themselves on a wild shore backed by cliffs and rolling grassland. The way back is blocked. Making their way inland they meet a man dressed in a wolf's cloak and with wolves by his side. He speaks English and has heard of a place called London - other people have arrived here down the ages - all escaping from a London that is burning. None of them have returned. Except one - who travels between the two worlds at will. The group begin a quest to find this one survivor; the one who holds the key to their return and to the safety of London. And as they travel this...

Floaters | Tales from the Bookshop

Tales from the Bookshop is a collection of strange events that happened during my time working in a bookshop which left me wondering if I was in an episode of The Twilight Zone. This is a story comes from my wife, it was one of those tales that terrorize every book store employee...  This happened before I ever met Wolf, I wasn't even there for the event, I just turned up once the storm had settled or somewhat settled.  In spite of that it has been passed down as lore... it has been seared into the minds of every one of the store employees, there is never a time when children used the bookstore bathrooms where you didn't wonder "what will we find this time..."

Up and Coming Reads | The Hidden Oracle

From the pen of Rick Riordan , famous for his ' Percy Jackson and the Olympians series ' comes this new offering: The Hidden Oracle. I purchased the Australian trade paper version for my 9 year old son because he loved reading the Percy Jackson series .  I'm happy that he's getting some exposure to Greek/Roman Mythology, even if it's from a second hand source, but at least he's reading and enjoying the story.  So maybe it will make him more open to the classics in the future. I asked him what he thought of the book so far and his expert opinion is ' It is good '.  Hopefully this doesn't contain **spoilers** but when I asked him what had happened so far he said ' They're still looking for Percy Jackson. ' OK, so hopefully that gets you interested.  I'll ask him to provide further info if he finishes the book. If you want to get yourself a copy you can pick up a Kindle or Hardcover version here: link   Or just visit your...

A Face Like A Potato | Tales From The Bookshop.

Tales from the Bookshop is a collection of strange events that happened during my time working in a bookshop which left me wondering if I was in an episode of The Twilight Zone. The day started out like many others during my time at the bookshop until just after lunch time, I heard the bell on the front door chime as a new customer entered.  I made my way to the front counter and I must have accidentally passed through an opening into another dimension.
